Selenium Bioremediation Presentation
Project Overview:
This 10,000 acre irrigation and drainage district in the San Joaquin Valley employed Agrarian to assist them in the development of a program for the removal of selenium from the drain water generated on the District's farming lands.
Selenium is a naturally occurring element in the soils of this region that is harmful to wildfowl above certain minimum concentrations in the water. Agrarian has developed an affordable and farm friendly treatment program that involves phyto-remediation in a modified wetland setting.
Bio-remediation processes involving bacteria for volatization and reduction of selenium are also employed. The project has removed over 80% of the selenium from the treated drain water. Agrarian has already designed the next phase (prototype scale) of the project for more widespread implementation.
